Jared and I have started a little remodel project in our kitchen. I just couldn’t live with the 1950′s countertops filled with the most disgusting grout, a cornered stained sink, terrible lighting, etc… I could go on and on. Needless to say, we can’t do everything we want, but we can update the necessities for pretty cheap. It is a quick fix until we knock out walls and build out. Since Jared is a chef, there is no doubt that one day we will have our, or rather his dream kitchen, but until then our little remodel with suffice. An industrial space– Carrera countertops, black cabinets, touches of chrome, and green walls are my inspiration. And in the weeks to come, the after pics.

Inspiration Shot: Black paint to cover up the terrible existing cabinetry and honed carrera marble to modernize the space.

The Aubrey Pull from Restoration Hardware. I love the industrial feel of these, as well as the intricate details of the holes. They will look great against the black drawers. I am also using the Asbury Knobs on cabinets. They are a bit sleeker in style, but I like to mix it up.
I love using gray grout against the white tiles. It really makes the shape of the tiles pop. We had to go with a farmhouse sink, not only because I really like the look, but because of the existing depth of the countertops. Since it is an old house, we couldn’t find a standard size sink that would fit, therefore a farmhouse sink can protrude from the countertops and saved us from putting in new cabinetry throughout the space… saving us tons of money!

Stainless steel open shelving from IKEA (EKBY Shelf). For $30/ shelf and easy installation... you can't beat it!
And to tie it all up, Benjamin Moore’s “Hollingsworth Green”. It won’t compete with the black and will make the white feel fresh and modern. Plus, it still coincides with the 1950′s feel.
Here’s what is happening thus far…
Green Chrome by Benjamin Moore is a strong color. I recently used it in a super quick “real estate” kitchen remodel. Instead of painting black cabinets, which the client was weary of, we used Green Chrome. I thought it turned out pretty great! Take a look…
